A year and a half of Bullet Journaling
Believe it or not, I've been Bullet Journaling for almost a year and a half now. That is by far the longest I've continuously used a particular system in the past 10 years.
I call it Bullet Journaling, but it's really my own modified system I detailed in this post awhile back. That's the beauty of the Bullet Journal system, you can shape it to your needs.
As you know, I've gone back and forth with the Bullet Journal vs day per page diary debate for a long time. Well now I think I can put that to rest. I never had this level of satisfaction with my day per page diary.
Just to make sure, I looked back through some of my old day per page planners recently. The bottom line was, I could use that one page each day as my planner, or as a journal but there wasn't enough space on one page for both planning and journaling. Bullet Journaling (in a blank notebook) solves that issue entirely.
My Bullet Journal is anything I need it to be at that moment. When I went to Iceland, I wrote pages and pages about our trip. When I have a busy day, I fill a two-page spread with tasks and notes. I write my Christmas lists, plan my kids' birthday parties, let my kids draw in the book and generally keep myself sane.
As you can see in the photo at the top of this post, I've been using the same type of notebook this whole time: large blank-page Moleskine notebooks. But for my next notebook I'm thinking of branching out to something else. Probably a Leuchtturm A5 size for the wider page. But I'll stay with the blank pages because I love the freedom.
I contributed to the Bullet Journal Kickstarter recently and am looking forward to my new notebook and to the new BulletJournal.com website and becoming a member of the Bullet Journaling community!
Hooray for Bullet Journaling success!
Thanks for the reminder that I'm coming up on a year in April. You touched on the reasons it has stuck with me so long too. The extra page space in a Leuchtturm is nice and I love their dot grid paper. My collections are in a Moleskine. So much info in two slim journals... I love Bullet Journalling!
ReplyDeleteHave been using a large squared Moleskine as a self-drawn monthly-weekly-daily which I love but its hard to flip right to the day when I need to make an appointment so have fallen back on adjunct systems for that. That being said I love the freedom to change my design from day to day. I put all the lists and notes in at the back and can manage about 3 months in a book. Am on my 2nd book since last summer so I know this works.
ReplyDeleteI started a kickstarter for the startup of my lifestyle agenda, but unfortunately it didn't get the exposure that it needed :-( I plan to start another one next month. Anyway, thanks for loving planners as much as I do!

If you switch to Leuchturrm1917 I don't think you will find much of a difference, although that is what I use for drawing. You are lucky that you find peace with just one journal. The Hobonichi Techo is my day to day now and it was hard to change from ringbound. But like you said, bullet journaling is what you make it and my sort of "hybrid" style works for me. Thank you for sharing your planner journey.

I've used the Leuchtturm notebooks before, they are great. The wider page is nice for more space, but the wider book and heavier paper (80 gsm vs 70 gsm in the Moleskine) makes for a slightly heavier book.
DeleteI use a separate planner for all forward planning. The two books together are the perfect combination of forward planning and daily recording.
Thanks for the reminder Laurie! I've gone to using my Filofax for planning out the week at a time, and a day page for what to do that day, as you noted above. Given I carry my stuff in a backpack for class, I am going to to a test run of my daily pages in my Moleskine as you do. It will be lighter in my backpack and won't beat up my lovely Filofax.
